The Good:These are standard-spindle wide-platform aluminum pedals, with 8 peg-like nubs on each side of each pedal. So vaguely similar in size and shape to the Raceface Chesters I've been running. But aluminum instead of resinThese add small lights to the outside of each peddle, improving side visibility and adding lights that are in motion, so they should help drivers see me while I'm riding.Light operation is very simple, press on, press again for blink, press third time for off. That's for each side though, since each pedal light is necessarily independent. The Bad:Each light is a tiny LED that's powered by a pair of LR44 mini-coin batteries. The assembly is three pieces: a rubber light cap, the light and board, and the batteries. All are held together in a recess at the outside of the pedals and the rubber cap fitting into that recess. What this means is that in actual night riding it is going to be nearly impossible to change batteries before getting somewhere with indoor-equivalent lighting and smooth worksurface. It also means that night-shift bike commuters will likely need to change batteries roughly weekly, and sooner or later that will cause the rubber cap to get lost down a drain or fail at retention. I understand the space and weight and impact danger constraints here, but any time a piece of bike lighting uses coin cells instead of going with AA/AAA or USB-rechargable battery options, I have to wonder if the designers actually intend for it to be used in real-world night riding.Still, at the current price of $19, these are at least a fair value for the pedals even after the light assembly fails. So I can't be too upset. These will go on my winter commuter bike until I get sick of swapping the batteries at which point my beat up Chesters will go back on.
