I bought two of these holders for seasonal tire storage. I needed something that would prevent the tires from hitting the finished wall and this helped. The larger tires (on the right in the photo) are 225 60 R17 and have at least 1.5 inches of clearance between the tires and the wall. In the manual there is a table with instructions for installing cross members for different tire sizes. Installation was easy and relatively easy. I installed them myself but would like a helper to hold things while I mark the holes and level lines. I took the advice of other reviewers and bought new screws. I used 3/8" x 3.5" (shown large) since I finished my wall. I also bought a box of 1 inch washers. After drilling 15/64" pilot holes in the drywall and bolting, I used a 1" spade and just drilled through the drywall. I added 6 washers in each hole to match the thickness of the drywall and then installed the brackets. The washers keep the drywall from collapsing and make for a very rigid installation (thanks to the reviewer who first suggested this). I am very happy with these shelves and would recommend them to anyone looking to free up space. Just plan your installation well and buy new hardware.
