We have 4 of these units that work 24/7 and they are problematic! We use a company recommended in-line filter and a commercial large 3-stage city water filtration system and it still doesn't remove white powdery limescale on anything in the room. Scale/calcium in hard water will not be removed by any filter other than reverse osmosis. The cool mist design blows scale/scale in the water around the room, you will start noticing fine white powdered limescale on filters and other items. Google this type of humidifier and white chalk powder and you will find that this is a common problem in homes that use this type of humidifier and this manufacturer MUST recommend R/O water as I am sure they are aware of this problem are aware! If you don't use R/O water, this unit will quickly have problems, buildup in the tank, float valves leak causing water to flow constantly, or create a vacuum in the tank causing constant flow draining and refilling, and lastly but not least an equally important discrepancy with the relatively built-in humidity control. The humidity controller on this machine is mediocre at best and every unit is different, when you hook it up to a separate controller it becomes very obvious! Buyers beware this is not a marvel design as it seems R/O water and a separate humidistat are a must if you add these items the cost is not as economical as it seems conceptually great the execution isn't much .
