Didn't think a phone pocket in the inner lining would be very useful. I wasn't sure I would like the cotton design either as I assumed it would get a lot heavier as you sweat. I was wrong on both counts. These are quality shorts and I plan to buy more (I have 4 so far). Shorts get heavier as you sweat. But even after a long workout, it was never noticeable until I took them off and felt how much sweat was absorbed. I don't know anything about durability or color fastness at this point; However, I will update this review if I find a problem. It was very convenient to be able to store a mobile phone in the inner lining. I never felt like it might fall out while running and the case is big enough for my iPhone 11 Max with case. There are also pockets for other things and with other running shorts I've had I've always been afraid that something might fall out unnoticed. The depth of the pockets on these shorts mitigates that feeling significantly.
