Review on πŸ”Œ Tera Grand USB 2.0 to RS232 Serial DB9 Adapter: Windows 10, 8, 7 Compatible - FTDI Chipset by Darrin Parasson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good build quality and works well.

I received the item on time with Prime as expected. For some reason the driver CD didn't come up with what could have happened. I'll be contacting the seller about the CD and if I don't get it right I'll deduct a star or two depending on customer service. If you're like me on the road and sometimes need to use multiple laptops that don't even have an internet signal, it's important to have a driver CD handy. To solve this problem I just went to their website and downloaded the driver and instructions zip file which was very easy to find. By the way, my Windows 7 laptop didn't find the driver automatically, so I had to download it manually, but that's not a problem. To test this, I plugged the Cisco console cable into the Juniper firewall and then directly into this adapter on my laptop's USB port (the included USB extension cable was not used). I use the term Tera because Windows no longer provides Hyper Terminal, and I prefer the term Tera anyway. Well, the adapter worked without any problems, which is why I give it 5 stars. I'm not deducting a star for the driver CD unless the company fixes the problem. Also, I don't care about the USB extender, so I didn't include it in the review. This is a very small cheap looking extension cord. I'm sure it works, but then again they packed it so tight that due to the tight fold it almost has creases on the ends of the connector and all over. What was important to me was the adapter, it is of very good quality and connects securely on both sides. I recommend this adapter if you are using RS232 for DB9. I chose it over the cord because I already have enough cords in my work bag to take with me.

Pros
  • Computer cable adapter
Cons
  • No instructions
