Review on Black Oster Electric Wine Opener by Gregory Robinson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Simple and reliable corkscrew replacement

This is a great product. It does what it's supposed to - remove the plug - and it's quick and easy. The supplied foil cutter works well and the whole thing is neatly stowed away in the charging cradle. The only downsides to this device are: 1) The mount is very light and when the power cord hangs down it pulls the charging cradle with it. (I put a wine cooler on top of the main fridge in my apartment, and this bottle opener sits next to it. Because the power cord is dangling behind the fridge, it's pulling the charger down. The bottom of the stand solved the problem.) On the other hand, someone might complained that the stand is too light, but Auster should consider putting water-soluble adhesive strips on it. 2) The opener is most effective for well preserved bottles/corks. If the cork is brittle or has storage damage (which doesn't necessarily mean the bottle is bad), an Easter opener will likely make matters worse, as it will crack the cork and potentially force it into the bottle once the resistance stops. compromised. Luckily, you get a feel for how the device handles a cork fairly quickly (you might have to strain a cork out of a bottle or two before you get the feel for it) and settle for a serrated opener. I titled the review "Corkscrew Replacement" because this opener does the job better than any corkscrew when you might still need prongs. While some, like me, like to turn the waiter's key into a flimsy cork, if a fight ensues (or you don't want to risk the wine), you'll need to use one of these serrated openers. Overall, this is a handy device that's fun to use.
