My baby loves these rattles from 3 months when he is just learning to grasp toys. He can't hurt himself. I don't know how many times my oldest at that age had toys that were hard rattles and hit himself with them. It's not actually a teething toy, but he tried sucking on it and it turned out to be on the soft side, similar to a soft pillow. It makes no noise and doesn't wrinkle, just soft. So he likes to suck this side and get it wet lol. The other side is a hard rattle and he tried to suckle on that side but he couldn't, the rattle didn't fit in his mouth. It's mostly good for fun if just shaking it. We learned how to grab his toy and how to hold it. This is a good first toy and both rattles are colourful.
