Review on CURT 22750: Premium Black Steel Trailer Hitch Cover for 2-Inch Receivers - Complete Protection and Enhanced Aesthetics by Bobby Blanton

The best case for me to hide the rear camera.

I bought this cover not to protect the receiver (in fact, if you don't paint and fill the hole with silicone, no "plug" will protect it from rust), but to to install him rear view camera on my tacoma is 95 years old. The CURT steel lid works like a dream for this. It's a welded piece of steel that will survive any "tail" mishaps from other riders, and it's impossible to steal or damage the camera unless someone comes along with a welding torch. I made my own insert that goes into this square tube and holds the camera. A 14mm hole drilled in the back of this cover provides a window behind the recessed "surveillance" camera. Camera "Esky EC170-06 - World's Smallest High Resolution Color CCD Waterproof Car Backup Camera" - good image quality for the price. I've now read that people complain that the hole position makes the lid either short or too long. I do not agree with these statements. The hole is oval to accommodate car-mounted receivers, but there doesn't seem to be a standard for how far the hole should be from the receiver. The same manufacturer can't make it the same between models, so how can you expect one to fit all? In my 95 Tacoma, the hole was about 1/2 too wide, causing the cap to stick out about 1/2 inch from the receiver. . The included foam pad cannot fill the gap, leaving about 1/4 of the space. The 2012 4Runner is even worse - the hole appears to be about an inch longer. I haven't tried it on other trucks. So instead of buying and returning an item, measure the distance between the end of the receiver and the center of the hole. If it's about 2.5 inches everything is fine, if it's less the cover will rattle, if it's more you won't be able to install it. Everything is easy. I had no problem with the hole location - I drilled my hole exactly where I needed it. No rattling - perfect fit.
