I am a carpenter and am fed up with using cheap and/or broken scribers. I figured I'd spend a few bucks more and buy a nicer pair. At first glance they seemed a bit coarse in quality, but durable. I put them in my tool bag and looked forward to using them. When I tried to make a small stroke on the cabinet filler, I found that the pointer leg didn't close tight enough to touch the tip of the pencil. When the scribes were fully closed, about 5/16 inch actually remained. I couldn't use them because the pen I made was only about an eighth of an inch. Glad I kept a cheap pair. I later bent the pointer's steel leg a bit to correct the problem.
