Battery life is not very good

With a child on the autism spectrum, an iPad/tablet is essential. was glad to get it, also because he had to teach it at home. Unfortunately, charging and discharging very quickly takes forever. I'm stuck at not getting it back (it costs too much to go a few days without it). Considering it's new, there shouldn't be any reason for the battery to be like this (yes, I use the charger that came with it). Otherwise I haven't noticed any other problems.
