For a long time I thought the Samsung DVD-P421 would be a good choice to get the most out of my current and future hardware. It combined features and functionality with players that were much more expensive. It loaded DVDs fairly quickly, produced flawless video output, and produced great sound on my 29" RCA TV. The large remote control was a little tricky to use, especially in the dark. The small remote made up for that with easy-to-use glow-in-the-dark buttons for basic needs like starting and stopping playback and navigating DVD menus. Overall I was very happy with this player until four weeks after delivery it simply refused to load any discs. It would be _trying_ to load them and then just print a "no disk" indicator. It played new DVDs straight out of the box as well as broken and damaged Netflix DVDs for 24 days, all without the slightest hint of a problem. He just couldn't take the 25th day. I have a few days off. Right now my small sixty dollar featureless Apex DVD player looks really good compared to the DVD-P421 because it played my stuff months before I bought the Samsung and it still works. All the features and values of the world don't matter much if the player just doesn't play.
