Let me start by saying that the filter is indeed a filter. It keeps crystal clear water and has no water quality issues. He is currently filtering a 20 gallon turtle tank that is being raised by babies and is 2/3 full with a few small fish. Easy to clean and easy to replace cartridges. The water level must be kept close to the outlet if it is to be calm, otherwise you will hear the waterfall 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now the downside, and why am I giving it 3 stars because it's my 3rd. My first made a terrible noise in the engine so I swapped it out for the second. The 2nd died one day. Turned on again after repair, but it doesn't work. My third is fine. Why did I get it 3 times? Well it's only $8 and it does the job perfectly. And it has 3 years warranty. Over time my tortoise will grow and generate more waste so I don't plan on using it long term but for now it serves its purpose.
