This set contains three useful tools, a multimeter, a non-contact voltage tester and a socket tester. A socket tester is useful for finding ungrounded outlets. that are too common. These are the ones where someone has replaced an existing two-prong ungrounded outlet with one that appears to be grounded (with three prongs available). But, unknown to the later user, only those with electricity are actually connected. Without a third ground pin, surge protection is virtually non-existent. This can result in the electronic device being unplugged prematurely. Few years ago we lost PVR due to this hidden problem. This tester can alert you to such bad wiring and help you avoid losses like ours. The non-contact voltage detector makes it easier to detect AC voltage with LEDs as indicators. When the switch is pressed, an audible indication is also added. Testing AC voltage is always a bit dangerous when a direct connection is required. While caution is always needed with AC power, a contactless device simplifies operations and makes them more reliable. My experience with the multimeter has shown that it is accurate and easy to use. Because the meter has a manual range, an approximate voltage must be selected before it will give results. But having batteries for 1-1/2 and 9 volt batteries gives it some unique settings that even most automatic gauges don't have. I am very happy with this purchase and I think others will be too.
