I bought this unit for a project after discovering that my Asus laptop's built in floppy disk drive could not burn Blu-ray. The price was definitely a plus, the looks meant I didn't have to deal with installation issues so .winner. The CD arrived quickly, as expected. I connected both USB ports to my laptop and tried to burn a project from Adobe Encore. It recognized the drive but most write options were grayed out. So I tried the included software utility. Same result - nothing. So I called Asus tech support. I was pleasantly surprised when they responded in 60 seconds or less. The technician asked me the same question several times and finally asked what operating system I was using. Windows 8.1. She wasn't sure if the drive would support that version. Hm. So I hooked it up to another Windows 7 computer and it seems to burn the disc just fine. Even before the drive check, I would have given it four stars instead of three, but Asus should have told me that Windows 8.1 is not supported. However, its compact size, light weight and low cost make it a smart buy for me. And using another computer to write random BRs is not that difficult.
