A Wonderful Entry Level Experience: Dinsmore & Shohl

I worked for D&S during my summer training program where I was hired as an entry level associate. While this position only lasted until graduating, working there allowed me get some hands on experience at a very well known law firm with large amount of lawyers who specialize across several areas of law. It is not often that anyone can see all facets of what the biglaw life is like by just meeting and talking with multiple types of people within one organization. But this opportunity presented itself to us when attending the Summer Program. This was my introduction to the world of corporate legal matters within a complex departmental system - especially regarding mergers or acquisitions (MAs). I was able to interact with many different departments including human resources (HR), procurement, finance, etc., but mainly focused around MAs and litigation support departments. There were also quite a few general counsels which gave me insight into their perspective on how the department functions along side other more traditional companies such as Wells Fargo. I am very happy with my experience at this firm! They were great about letting me know when they did not have an opening for their department that fit what was needed right away; even if it meant waiting until another position opened up down the road. I also appreciated how much time each employee took out just talking (or listening) to me during interviews or job evaluations as well as showing interest/willingness to learn more about working outside of law school.
