Review on Magnasonic Resolution Converts Scanning FS53 by Geoff Yates

Works well with scanners

This film scanner was good for scanning older 35mm slides. I hooked it up to my Dell computer monitor so I can see my photos on the big screen. Other versions of this product have an HDMI connection for more modern monitors. It has an RCA component video cable. At first I used the onboard memory but it only holds five scans so I added an SD card to store photos. The manual says it has 64MB internal memory for 14 images, but the "Memory Full" message appears after scanning 20MB files. I activated this by plugging it into my computer's USB port and transferring the photos was as easy as switching to USB transfer mode, which made the drive show up in Windows 10. It's a scan to JPG files and my file size is around 4MB. . I would prefer a feature that scans directly to a computer via USB and bypasses the SD card. The quality was acceptable given the limitations of the source material. I'm not sure if some of the graininess is inherent in the source material or if another slide scanner would do the job better. More expensive scanners have a higher DPI rating. When connecting to a monitor without slides, I easily notice the accumulated dust. A dust removal brush is included, but this brush should be better. Dust is added by falling brush felt, so I had to constantly clean the brush and scanner. I used canned air to help. Some of these slides were over 40 years old and dusty. One of the tricky parts was figuring out which direction to lay the foils. You can flip an image with a click of a button. With some photos it can be difficult to determine the correct direction until later viewing. You have to select the slide or film type in the settings and I had to look up what it was. Standard 135: 24mm x 36mm. 126 is 26.5mm x 26.5mm110 is 13mm x 17mm All my slides were 135. Current price is $100. Slide scanning services can be expensive. It comes with a USB cable and an AC adapter for power when you don't connect it to your computer.
