Review on Maconee Microwave Sandwich Maker with Fast Cooking and Dishwasher Safe Features for Grill Cheese and Crispy Cookware by Latasha Pizzino

Works well but doesn't save time

If you're like me you probably consider this a bit easier or faster than other methods, but it's not. It takes 4 to 4.5 minutes to make a basic grilled cheese sandwich. You have to preheat it for 2 minutes to make sure it's hot enough and then it basically behaves like any grilled cheese maker and takes another 2-2.5 minutes to get crispy. If you don't reheat it, it'll still take 4 minutes, but your sandwich might be a bit chewy. You'll also need to butter the bread anyway, or use butter or mayonnaise, but I personally prefer flavored butter, and GFS liquid butter tastes very buttery and is also easier to spread since it's already in liquid form and doesn't need to be refrigerated. It should be noted that the bread is much darker at the bottom than at the top, and I don't know why. I suppose it would be wise to turn it upside down halfway through the process, but that's another thing to do if, like a real cheese pan on a clamshell, you're just going to plug it in and stand by until then can let light changes. For the time it will take. In fact, you're no better off than using a cheap grilled cheese factory. I don't know what would be more energy efficient, but if you're a college student or something and want minimal item possession due to space constraints, then this will certainly fit. It can't really do anything other than sandwiches, but I suppose you could blow up a burrito or something and get a crunchy top and bottom.

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • There are drawbacks
