Review on πŸ“» Tecsun R9700DX: Advanced 12-Band Dual Conversion AM/FM Shortwave Radio for Exceptional Listening Experience by Duane Kaul

Good radio but no QC

So after getting 3 separate radios and finally getting one that works properly here is my opinion. First, I like the style and construction of the radio. If you like "Old School New Tech" then this will definitely satisfy you. The FM and AM/AM bands are very sensitive and the DX function works quite well and picks up a lot of weak stations. Looking forward to trying AM with a loop antenna. I haven't had much luck catching many SW channels, but that's probably due to bad weather lately. The sound quality is good, I'd say, the stereo and mono switching between them is crisp, and preferences can vary. Build quality is good especially the dial, good resistance for fine tuning without worrying about missing weak signals and holds the transmitter well. Also the tuning scale is pretty accurate on my particular radio. It's really nice to have an AC adapter and FM/SW wire antenna included for at least $20. The case is also a fairly nice, sturdy, well-made canvas-like material that fits the radio snugly and snugly. Overall I am very happy with the radio and look forward to further testing. The bad thing is that I needed 2 replacements to find one that satisfied me. On one radio, the tuning knob was MUCH off. For example if I tried to set 92.3 FM it would read 95-96 FM. Another radio had a loud popping noise when the backlight turned on, a loose tuning knob, scrapes on the back of the transmitter, a very loose band switch, etc. I'm sure most people will be happy with some of these little things, but for I expected a little more from a $50 radio. As long as you get a radio that works well and don't expect perfection, I would recommend this radio for its style, sound quality and sensitivity.
