Review on πŸ”’ Apexstone Soft Close Lid Support: Ensuring Safety and Convenience with Soft Down Lid Hinge (Set of 2) by Tommy Abreu

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great, there are nuances.

I bought this to install in a bay window seat (there is a drawer underneath). The lid is made from solid oak and is approximately 1 x 6 feet x 3/4 inch thick so quite heavy. Yes, instructions were included, NO, the measurements weren't that picky. Racks are shipped compressed as they close gently. They work by applying pressure to stay open, they work by slowing the flow of air out of the spring when compressed. I installed two to support the lid. I used the center splitter in the seat's chest to fit both. The problem was that they do NOT keep the lid open. It starts to close as soon as you let go (just nice and slowly). I used a separate single 7" gas strut that the same seller lists on Amazon to support the lid. It actually works great to have all three. When I open it, it stays open. There is one area where it just stays open. If I close it a little, the weight of the lid takes over and they start to work. Now it doesn't close super soft and it might hurt my pinky fingers a bit, but I stuck my hand in and it closed hard enough to notice. I actually like it because it might hurt a little hand, but it won't hurt her badly - just enough for the kids to remember not to put their hand in when it closes!

Pros
  • High marks from testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Not sure
