Simple, low tech humidifiers offer an easy way to add moisture to our homes this winter. The added moisture makes breathing easier and reduces static electricity. I keep the smaller humidifier in the master bedroom and the larger one in the main room. When my husband first saw the design - a hollow white ceramic hemisphere in a shallow dark bowl - he was skeptical, but I'm happy to say it actually works. I just check the water level in the bowl when I water my houseplants and fuzzy cat grass. Just don't fill the bowl to the brim before putting the white hemisphere in, as the water will overflow. Simply fill the bowl halfway, place the bowl in the location of your choice, and then insert the white hemisphere. A NOTICE. As with any source of standing water in the home, you should keep an eye on your humidifier for signs of dirt and mold. If necessary, clean each unit with a diluted solution of mild detergent and/or bleach. Rinse well with water and they are ready to use again.
