Review on AMD Phenom II X4 940 πŸ’» Black Edition 3.0GHz AM2+ Processor - Retail by Avut Lapnan ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The product is of good quality, there is only one minor defect.

a powerful and inexpensive processor operating at the limit of the imperfect architecture of AMD processors, losing in this regard to the latest architecture of Intel i-core processors operating at much lower frequencies and lower power consumption, but it has a lower price. If you have extra money IMHO, you should seriously think about assembling a system based on the Intel i5 processor, which is only a little more expensive than the 965 hair dryer, but is made using a more advanced technology - expended. the power is 95 watts, and the frequency is only 2.66 MHz, but nevertheless, "in some places" faster in games than the Phenom 965, whose frequency is as much as 3.4 MHz !

Pros
  • powerful relatively inexpensive processor, great for games, good price-quality ratio - IMHO much better than the Intel i7, which is about 15-20% faster in games, but it costs much more and is certainly better than the already "obsolete" core 2 duo; open multiplier - easily "chases" up to at least 3900 MHz; built-in memory controller supporting both dd2 and dd3
Cons
  • high power consumption (125W for the 3rd revision) and, consequently, high heating, the boxed cooler (rather noisy) hardly allows you to step over the critical temperature of 62 degrees; more expensive price for additional 200 MHz 965 models in comparison with the previous model 955 IMHO is generally unjustified because there is practically no performance increase in tests, besides, 955 is chasing the same as 965
