Review on Women'S Softies Marshmallow Lounger With Pockets Crew Neck Sweatshirt by Brian Chatum

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Comfortable, cozy, but too fragile. Luxury price tag, but it's not holding up.

Update: I've owned this nightgown / lounge dress long enough to have worn it several times and laundered it twice. It's still as comfortable and cozy as it was, but I'm also still not impressed. I get less impressed every time I find a new pick on it. It's the most high maintenance synthetic knit garment I've owned in a while. And it's by far the most high maintenance and fragile sleeping garment that I've ever owned. The label says to machine wash gentle / cold and lay flat to dry. Fine, but I don't have that much space to lay it flat unless I spread out towels on a bed to dry it. So that's what I do. I run it through two spin cycles to get as much water out as possible so that it weighs less and takes less time to dry. I'm accustomed to babying cashmere that way. I'm not accustomed to doing this for a synthetic knit sleeping garment. What's really bugging me is that every time I turn around, there is a new pick on it somewhere. Ugh. I'm not wearing this to build a house, I'm wearing it to sleep in. I am totally hedonistic with my bedding. I have miles of fluff on my bed. And yet I still wake up with a new pick. I don't wear much jewelry at all, so it's not like I'm dripping in jewels that catch on the knit.Honestly, I am so torn. It really is one of the coziest things that I own. It feels wonderful. Although it fits plenty loose, it's still not very flattering and I still don't care because it's so comfortable. But it's just too high maintenance for my life. It's already not holding up and I haven't owned it a whole month yet.I am a Vine reviewer, so I did not pay up front for this gown. I have to pay income tax to the IRS on its value. I wouldn't choose to pay $119 for it because I still do not believe the quality matches the price. The price says it's a luxury item. Unfortunately, I don't believe the garment supports that. It feels more like there's a luxury culture being created around a brand that's your basic department story quality. It doesn't inspire brand loyalty. For perspective, I own major brand name Oxford cloth pajamas that I happily pay $150 for. They're an old-school brand that's been around for generations. Those pajamas are magnificent. Every time a pair wears out, which takes several years of near-constant wear, I buy a new pair. I will buy that brand for the rest of my life because the quality totally supports the price.I'm keeping my original 4 star rating for this gown, but that's because there's a massive difference between 4 stars and 3 stars. I tend to need serious issues with something to rate it 3 stars. It's still pretty and it's still comfortable, so I don't believe it's a 3 star item. Original review below.___________________________________Is this nightgown / lounger comfortable, snuggly, soft, and warm? Yes. Is it pretty? Yes. Is it virtually identical to every chenille sweater that I wore in the 90s? YES!I do love this nightgown. I enjoy wearing it. I think it's pretty, and it's exactly as pictured. I don't look great in it because it tends to enhance all of the wrong curves while hiding all of the good curves, but who cares? It's comfy! It's just that for this price, I thought I was going to receive something really special. What I received was essentially a long chenille sweater (with pockets). Don't get me wrong, I loved those sweaters. But still. To be fair, the nightgown really is lovely. It's soft and stretchy and warm. And if you are all about trends and celebrity endorsements, then maybe it's right up your alley. I do not see the value in it when I compare the materials to the price. I don't mind spending money. I spend money like it's my job. But I only spend that way on high quality things that I believe are worth it. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this nightgown doesn't fit into that category. It is definitely worth owning. But not at this price. This one is a no-go for me.
