My problem was a leaking valve in the single-hand shower. This item is a perfect replacement for the original Moen 1200 cartridge, but the replacement process itself is not for the faint of heart. My cartridge is seriously stuck after 40 years of use. I ended up removing the old cartridge in two parts: first the shaft came out with a standard Moen puller and finally the cartridge itself with a home made jig I found on youtube. Cleaning the inside of the valve body before installing a new cartridge is essential, but not easy either. I ended up spending about $100 on tools and parts, plus a few days without a shower. Next time it happens it will be a lot easier. Note. The plastic tool provided with the repair kit was useless to remove the old cartridge but was needed to adjust the position of the new cartridge once it was inserted into the valve body. Don't throw it away in desperation.
