These window candles emit a subtle flickering light. We have them in every window in our three story house. At the beginning of the season, I put them all on my dining room table, turn them all on at once, and then spread them out on every window throughout the house. That's all! No wires, no bulbs to turn on and off. You need to define what time you want them to turn on and off as they have BUILT-IN TIMERS. Living in New Hampshire, it gets dark early around Christmas, so I let them come in the late afternoon and then they leave around the time we go to bed. Easy to stow away at the end of the season: NO cables! Take out the batteries, put them in the box and they're ready for the next season - they take up very little space. ATTENTION: If you want bright light in the windows, this is not for you. However, we love contemplating our thin, flickering, glowing orange candles in our hot tub each evening. Plus, batteries seem to last forever! We started using candles in early December (each takes 2 AA) and after 2 months they are still going strong. (Also important if you have kids - the lights never get hot!)
