Our dryer has started to trip the "non-resettable" temperature limiter constantly. So I replaced the regular thermostat with a non-resettable one. Which immediately jumped out again. The old coil didn't appear to be short anywhere on the chassis and the resistance was measured correctly. But I've noticed that some of the ceramic posts have turned slightly green, almost like corrosion. However, measuring from the coil inputs to the chassis gave a reading of several megohms, when it should have been infinity (i.e. open circuit). So I ordered one of these spare coils and plugged it in (after checking for continuity from coil to case out of curiosity - it showed an open circuit as expected). Since then the dryer has worked perfectly. No more bursting thermal switches and cold, wet laundry. So far it has survived 20-30 loads of laundry and seems to be holding up well.
