Efficient zoom for outdoor travel

Conclusion: no manual controls at all, few bad auto settings, mediocre IQ, weak autofocus and lame flash design make it its overpriced and inefficient travel zoom. However, in the right conditions (sunrise to sunset) it's a nifty little camera that, in the right hands, can take great photos and make your house friends think you've gotten the big one out. If you love your Nikon DSLR but don't want to hide your camera bag on vacation or your next trip and think "I bet Nikon has a great travel zoom", you're making the same mistake.. and so am I. Having no control over the aperture is extremely frustrating, and even trying to trick the camera by increasing the ISO doesn't result in a satisfactorily fast shutter speed in many cases. So if you're looking for a compact version of your DSLR with a good focal range, look elsewhere. But set it to Auto (dumb modes) and you can change white balance, color saturation, exposure compensation, metering and autofocus mode. a little more control (slightly ironic I think). The video is simple, intuitive and high quality and from the 1,000+ shots I took on Safari (didn't get a chance to take my DSLR with me) I have a lot of great memories and a lot of great photos. The equivalent focal length of 350mm will be very helpful in combination with relatively fast continuous shooting. Overall, not recommended for hobbyists or DSLR enthusiasts, but can be a good choice for those who only want quality photos on their travels.

Pros
  • Easy panorama, night and backlit/HDR modes, shoot in a new way
Cons
  • Slightly creased
