Universal charger. for jumpers, chargers and portable power supplies

TopDon is a new name to me but they sell a range of scanners, chargers, jumpers and other automotive tools. TOPDON TORNADO4000 is a 4 amp charger. 4-5 amps is the optimal value for this type of charger in my opinion. It will certainly charge your battery but it can last for many hours depending on how low your battery is. When I first saw it, it looked a lot like Cteck chargers or older NOCO models. The overall loading algorithm is also similar. The battery is tested followed by a desulphation mode and then the charger goes into full charge (full power) mode until the battery is approximately 80% charged. The charger then reduces the output power until the next charging threshold is reached. Rinse and repeat, doing various tests along the way, until the charger is fully charged. At this point the charger will enter maintenance mode. Turn on and off as needed. TopDon has indicator lights to track charging progress. This is MUCH better than older chargers that charged more slowly until they shut off. If left unattended, these chargers can literally boil the acid-water mixture out of your battery and destroy it. This TopDon can charge 6V lead-acid or conventionally flooded 12V, AGM or Lithium batteries. It has settings for small or standard 12V batteries, as well as a cold/AGM setting. This is a very versatile charger. Mode selection is easy with a single button on the charger. Good quality clamps. It looks like they used real copper, not copper plated steel. It also has a repair mode to repair a heavily sulfated battery. Most of the actual testing I've seen seems to indicate that repair/repair modes are often ineffective at actually "fixing" the battery, but it's certainly worth a try. I connected TopDon to a battery in a car I haven't driven in a while, one with an AGM battery. It was easy to select the mode you wanted and I watched it work its way through. I usually use Cteck MXS 5.0 for this purpose. I don't have the equipment to measure what actually happens during a charge cycle, but it behaved the same as the Cteck and took about the same time to charge under similar conditions. The TopDon Tornado 4000 is well made with a 3 year guarantee. This is an all-in-one charger that offers similar features and functionality to much more expensive chargers.
