Review on ๐Ÿ”— Beadsmith Jewelry Maker's Essential: Efficient Jump Ring Opening and Closing Tool by Amber Perez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Facts only!

I read all the reviews before ordering this ring. I've seen some people say that this doesn't work with 14, 16 or 18 gauge rings and that the ring itself is too small to fit on their fingers. I will not dispute these claims as unfounded, but if they have the same tool as me then they are wrong. Firstly, I use 16 and 18 gauge rings exclusively and they fit 3 of the 4 slots that the tool has. I buy mine from reputable jewelry websites so I know they are being properly measured. Second, the instrument itself is probably a size 6 ring. It's not designed to fit your finger completely. This is done to go through the first joint of your index finger. I've reached the second joint. It just slips onto the tip of my index finger and I use my thumb to hold it in place. If your index finger is larger than a size 6 in front of or at the first knuckle, it may be too small for you. Most people will have no problems using this tool. As for the tool itself, WOW, it allows you to open jump rings incredibly quickly. I can open about 25-30 per minute compared to about 10-15 with two sets of pliers. Someone who's been doing this for a while could probably work a lot quicker than someone like me who's only been doing this for a few months. Beginners will definitely benefit from using this tool. I open about 40-50 rings initially, then leave the ring on my finger while I work and can open or expand an open ring in seconds without picking up another tool. I recommend this tool for chain maille.
