Plastic is clearly preferable. In general, however, it works well. We've shredded the pork tenderloin for dog food and also the pork leg for sausage. However, I have to say that making sausage links is ridiculously time consuming and unprofitable. This isn't due to this product or our Kitchenaid blender, just a tedious job of loading the casing and pushing the ground beef in bit by bit (ground because it needs to be seasoned after the first grind). Also, our grocer charged the same dollar amount for lard as they did for sausage, so it doesn't make much economic sense.
