About 15 years ago I started listening to the radio at night to keep my ears from ringing from the battle. I started with a digital pocket radio from Sony. It worked really well and I ended up wearing out three Sonys. Moving on to 2016 - retired and no more stress and the ringing has stopped. But I still enjoy listening to late night radio shows. I decided to switch to Sangean and bought 160 for a change. I like the backlit dial and the 5 added FM presets (10 total). The 90 minute shutdown is a good battery saver (you have the option to use it or not). I bought Duracell batteries because I did that with Sony and it worked. The radio works about 5 hours a day and one set of batteries lasted me 18 nights. That's about what Sangean says you'll get (100 hours). I believe rechargeables are a bit weaker than regular Duracell copper tips, but this was the first cycle for rechargeables and I've heard they get stronger the more you charge them. The 160 is a good radio but more modern than the Sony and has a few extras like a backlit dial and 90 minute timeout. performance about the same. I'm not a radio expert, so I'll leave the comments to the experts. The Sangean picks up the signal a little better, especially on FM signals. I took the advice to buy other headphones and I'm glad I did. I have two pairs of Panasonic ErgoFit headphones and they are good. I don't currently know if it will last as long as Sony, so I'll find out. My third Sony is still working and is in my backup drawer. Written by Tom, Teresa's husband.
