Of course this filter is cheap, but whoever designed it needs a raise. This is done in such a way that you can easily clean and maintain the product. Each part can be disassembled for cleaning, even inside pipes. This is a sponge filter. So if you push it into old aquarium or dechlorinated water, it will be cleaned and the filter's beneficial microbes will remain intact. Sponges should last for years. A very well designed product with nothing to clog and no parts that cannot be cleaned or sterilized. I'm quite serious, whoever designed this is a master of their craft and really understands aquariums and their care.
