I received this original PCI Gigabit PCI Ethernet card for a customer as their PC's internal LAN connection was due struck by side effects of a lightning strike. Ouch! This PC is running special local software that forces it to stay on Windows XP (again, hooray!). It's so old that it only has the old original PCI slots. It accesses the printers on the internal network, but not the internet (thanks, firewall!). Thing is, there are times when you need to keep OLD computers running, which makes sense, and this was one of them. This PCI Ethernet interface is one of the few PCI cards I could find. The difference is that it is a Startech brand as their products have had consistently good experiences for both me and my customers. Knowing I don't have to go to a troubleshooting site helps maintain my brand loyalty. Installation in a customer's Dell Optiplex 960 Mini Tower was very easy. Good thing there is a low profile option. A NOTICE. The instructions state that the drivers should be installed BEFORE the card is installed. This is important and should be done in this order. Newer operating systems may have built-in drivers, but XP doesn't have them for the Realtek chipset. At only $10.99 (at the time of review), this card is downright cheap but very good quality. It means value to me. Because this Startech PCI Ethernet Ethernet card is easy to install, it's a brand I can trust and I give it 5 stars. I am very happy that this old interface card is still available from Revain!
