However, many questions.

It took a long time to get this working on my Macbook Pro mid 2014 (A1398). Good news: customer support is excellent! Really great. So far: The drive seems great. Bad news: The external drive (with Envoy Pro) was not recognized by my system. More details (these are the steps that worked in the end but also show problems) 0) High Sierra or higher installed. You must do this or the new disk will not be "understandable" by the old Sierra OS and below. This requires High Sierra (10.13 or later). I actually think you want to reboot, settle and update to 10.13.6 multiple times. But not sure if it really matters. 10.13+ counts! 1) All time machine backups on an external USB (the Western Digital 2G in particular is a good drive for what it's worth). 2) An old 512GB SSD in an Envoy Pro (this is required and not entirely clear unless you read both inserts that came with the drive) 3) A new OWC 1TB (actually around 960GB ) in a Macbook (it has a built-in interface, but only High Sierra and above understand it 4) If you press the option key on your Macbook while booting, Envoy Pro should show up as a bootable recovery option in the list. All I had were internet options. The support team actually wanted to send me a new Envoy Pro, but. see more below.5) I was able to partially restore a new OWC 1TB with WD but nothing. FYI, I've used the Carbon Copy trial (it's so cool you can actually make 5 copies - what great bombich software!) to copy from both WD (we'll see below) and an old SSD -Clone drive. .6) So after many failed attempts I ended up using the WD cable instead of the Envoy Pro cable. It (my old 512MB SSD) booted from Envoy! So you think it was a cable, right? Ok.7) So finally everything is working and I'm going to call support to let them know and that the cable was bad. But here's the weird thing: the Envoy Pro with my 512MB SSD now connects to the old cable (included in this kit!) with no issues. Anyway, that's my story. I am happy with this drive. A bit disappointed that I had to spend several evenings building it but very happy that my Macbook Pro got some extra life! I'm still wondering why the Envoy Pro couldn't be accessed - it could be an error, but as I said above I also had issues with a full restore from my WD backup drive - a different issue of course, but this could indicate some kind of weird low level issue with my mac, just to be complete here. Hope this helps someone. I trust this company, OWC, no matter the cost. Really great support.
