Toxic smell is best for vacuums and floor care

We bought two of these vacuums. Based on the return labels found on the box, the former appears to have been used before. As soon as we started it, the car started howling. It smells strongly of burnt lubricating oil. I disassembled the can to clean and inspect. There was white powder at the edge of the filter. I suspect someone tried to vacuum the plaster dust and broke the motor. As indicated in the instructions, this appliance must not be used with plaster dust or other fine powders; They will stall the engine. replacement ordered. The second machine cleaned the floor and carpets just fine, but... the nasty smell of lubricating oil remained. The smell wasn't as bad as the first time, but still strong enough to fill the whole room - it was like using WD-40 as an air freshener. We had to open all the windows (in 10 degree weather) and use a portable air filter to get rid of the smell. As you can read online, lubricant fumes are harmful to health. Lubricants oxidize very easily. That brings us to an interesting question. What happens when most of the fat in this machine burns out? Presumably the lubricant is used to prevent friction between moving parts. Will the device overheat and possibly melt? I note that there is a review dated 07/17/2018 that mentions that the vacuum cleaner got very hot. We didn't keep the device long enough to appreciate it. In short, we liked the way the vacuum cleaned things, but didn't like the bad smell.
