I hate the idea of dogs wearing collars. Animals are supposed to be footloose and fancy free. However, in this day and age when so many bad things can happen to our pets I knew I had to find a collar so my new rescue Jenni would always have identification on her. The first one I bought was a "break-away" collar which would come apart if the collar got stuck somewhere and was a potential danger to my dog. Big mistake putting a "break away" collar on a rescue the very first day you bring her to her forever home. Jenni - who was three and had never been leashed or collared - was having none of the collar - she indeed did "break away" in her first hour here and took off running like a cheetah. With the help of three neighbors we managed to located her and bring her home. I needed a non break-away collar - one that looked sturdy but comfortable This one works well for me and my 45-pound Australian Shepherd. It is soft - but still quite sturdy. And Jenni has accepted it when we leave home for our walks and romps. And it is easy enough to unbuckle once we get home.
