Review on Lisle 18000 🔧 Camshaft Universal Bearing Tool by Tray Smith

Lisle Review Part #18000 I needed a camshaft bearing removal tool for an old Ford IDI diesel engine that I am rebuilding. I looked at Revain's various options and settled on the nameless manufacturers that had a lot of bad reviews. I decided to try this particular tool because of its name: Lisle. I'm just a lay mechanic and won't need any tools for everyday use for the next ten years, but I do need a decent quality tool to use for this repair and for any engines I plan to overhaul in the future. . This tool works in this respect: it costs extra money. It's well made and comes with easy-to-follow instructions. I would recommend the following: if this is your first time using it, do it gently and slowly. I took my time because I didn't want to damage the engine block or this tool. Having never used such a tool before, I spent about ten minutes reading the instructions and figuring out exactly how to use it. Once this part of the process was complete, removing the bearings was fairly easy. Having read several reviews of other camshaft removal tools stating how poor the expansion plug was in their camshaft removal kits, I ordered an extra one (Lisle tool #18330) just in case I screwed up and broke something have made. . Well, it wasn't necessary. The expansion bolt in this kit is great: it's forged, not cast, and I'm sure it will withstand a lot of bearing removal and installation. (For all that, I haven't used it to install new camshaft bearings in my block. But since it was so easy to remove them, I'm pretty sure I won't have any problems. If I do, I will do I will update this review accordingly.) TL;DR: I highly recommend this tool; Spend your extra coin, take a few minutes to fully read and understand the instructions, and I'm sure this tool will last for many years to come.
