Review on Siedentopf Research Grade Trinocular Microscope with Enhanced Magnification by Ellington Gardner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A student microscope at a reasonable price.

We bought this microscope for our child. We originally bought a monocular but after more research we returned the unopened monocular and bought this trinocular. When we got the scope, we almost got it back. Revain placed the PREVIOUSLY OPENED microscope box in a large Amazon box with no packaging. The only reason we didn't send the microscope back was because the tape sealing the inner box was still in place. The microscope and all the equipment was in perfect condition and properly packaged so the only issue was that the packaging tape was either torn or broken. opened due to poor packaging. The microscope looks well built and has some weight. As you can see from other reviews, there is barely enough light. However, using a fully closed aperture with the light on at full brightness appears to provide the best view of the tiny critters being observed. This camera is good for what it is, an entry-level camera. As others have said, the camera could have been done better. It wobbles quite easily and you have to be careful not to touch or move the camera cable. There is no way to tighten the camera. One of the most frustrating problems is that the camera image does not match the binocular image. Finding the creature you're looking at through binoculars can take some hunting, especially at higher magnifications. Another downside is the camera software. We had a choice of MAC or PC, but we chose PC. The software is non-intuitive and includes additional steps required to save each image. 1 at once! . and I had to find directions online. There are a few other things, such as B. the locking screw of the binoculars, which could have been done better. That's stupid. There were no instructions for the microscope or camera software. There are no bins for storing magnifying eyepieces. it's just cheap. Finally, although no case was included, Swift has no more cases to buy, so I had to spend a few days researching and emailing several companies, including SWIFT, to try to find a good case, who wasn't ridiculous. I ended up spending another $65 on a hard-walled microscope box covered in canvas. I bought it here on Amazon. Luckily I found it well built and it was a good buy. Overall, this is an almost very good microscope with a few areas for improvement. However, I expect these improvements to add a few hundred bucks, which isn't worth it, so this microscope seems like a good compromise between spending too much money and having more microscope than you might need. In the future we will maybe buy a better camera in addition to the case I already bought, maybe some dark field filters if I can find some that aren't on eBay and also try to find eyepiece cases. If you're still unsure, search the internet for reviews. on this microscope, and I think you will end up buying this microscope.
