I assume they work

Haven't tested air ingress or heat loss with a thermal imager since I put it on but I think given the nature and way they are made, they will help a little. I have about 25 ceiling lights in my small house, they are all IC certified. If you've ever used them, while they're designed for direct contact with insulation, they're far from airtight. I was hoping this would help in that regard and also prevent dust from getting into the house from the attic insulation. nearly nothing. The fixtures next to the eaves were "old" fixtures, meaning they were inserted from below. Access to them is difficult. First, there must be a hole for wiring. It's not a terrible problem. , just make a slit and feed the wires through, then plug the slit with fireproof foam in a jar. Likewise, it was fairly easy to seal them up to the ceiling with foam. The problem occurs when there are light ceiling joists nearby and I don't have room to mount them over light. In this case I had to cut a "notch" to put it in place, which requires more sealing. I used a lot of caulk in a can (Great Stuff Fire Blocking). I can't remember how much, probably averaging 1/2 can per liter or more, but I've had seven rals with the jet gap issue mentioned above. Finally, I have two surround speakers on the ceiling of my living room. I didn't want to inflate the insulation directly over it, despite the manufacturer saying so, so I used it to cover it and then inflated the insulation directly over it, leaving the airspace above my speakers sealed. For this purpose they have worked very well. Due to my access issues I have 3 lights that I just can't turn on. So when I'm done with all my projects, I grab my thermal imaging camera and see how different they are. do and if i remember i will post the results.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
