Didn't work at all to spread the smell.
Absolutely no oil absorption. I followed every piece of advice I could get (reed flipping, waiting, specific oil/carrier blends, etc.) and. NOTHING. waste of money. In the end I just gave in and bought one of cool mist's electric aroma diffusers/humidifiers and it worked.
