Review on Zoo Med Floating Betta Pack by Tanya Jenkins

They have a terrible chemical smell! I've soaked them in water in a separate container for two days now, constantly changing the water several times a day, and they still smell awful! On the first day you could see multicolored swirls in the water at the top holes of both, like there was oil in the water. I'm so glad I didn't put them in my aquarium right away! Also in both black pieces came off. I could feel how rough they were on the inside, so I stuck my finger in and rubbed it, and tons of black flakes came out! If these black flakes got into my tanks they would be small enough that the fish would think they were food, so if they ate them they could get sick and die! How long does it take for the chemical smell to dissipate? I'm not even sure I want to accidentally put them in my aquarium. I might just return them because I spent too much on my fish to risk them dying on just a few decorations. You can see some of the black chunks/flakes that have detached from them. A lot has come loose and it looks like they are becoming more and more detached! I just emptied and rinsed the bowl completely and as soon as I refilled it only more chunks/flakes fell off of them just because the water ran over the logs!
