Works for Oculus Rift at the expense of bandwidth

Like many others, I bought this separate USB controller card for my Oculus Rift to hopefully fix USB errors and system overload crashes. Well I'm happy to report that it worked for a fee. I installed it in my PCIe x4 slot first, hoping it would work there, and plugged all 3 sensors and an Oculus headset into it. However, in testing, PCIe X4 wasn't enough to run the Oculus headset. It kept disconnecting/falling and reconnecting. I had no choice but to try the unused PCIe x16 slot above it. Everything about this slot was green and worked great. The trade-off, however, is that if anything is plugged into the PCIe slot below, the graphics card's PCIe x16 slot will switch to x8, right where I should have placed the USB card. So it works, but there is a trade-off. Since it's a 4-port card, I wrongly assumed PCIe X4 would be enough to handle it. And it can be for other purposes. Unfortunately, Oculus headsets require a lot more bandwidth, which is why they cause so many USB issues. connection method. Why they weren't made horizontally I can't understand. I've found that plugging in the USB before tightening the screw on the case helps by giving you a little more wiggle room. At first I thought my case would be in the way, until I moved the installed card a bit so my USB devices could connect, barely.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
