Review on Olympus VN2100PC Digital Voice Recorder by Andre Bennett

GOOD FOR THE MONEY - Portable audio and video

I've used this to dictate a few times. This is slightly distorted unless the speaker is within a few feet of the recording device. Which isn't a problem if you can put it in your front pocket. The Olympus website has a good shotgun mic that can be helpful when you're not close to the source. My only other valid complaint is the PC transfer software. Firstly, there are no instructions for doing this, although it's pretty easy if you're fairly savvy at connecting external devices to your PC. One thing I don't understand is how to email files and how to convert recordings so they can be burned to CD. In general it's worth the money and I have no regrets. Again, the quality is okay but could be better, and it's pretty good when you can position the recording device a few feet from the person's mouth. It's actually not possible if you don't record yourself. It really depends on what you're recording and what you want the quality to be. For classroom lectures, it would probably be okay if you were at the very beginning of the classroom. Recording yourself is okay.
