This cable can be something of a struggle

Having bought a few and burned a few shifter cables, I'm finally ready to post what I hope will be a helpful and informative review. Good This is a fixed length cable that is the correct length for the vehicles mentioned in the description. , and my F-150 in 2005 in particular. This cable runs from the selector lever near the steering column to a pin (protrusion) on the transmission lever that shifts the vehicle into a specific gear. The cable has some heat protection to prevent the cable from melting, and the cable is generally made of high-quality materials. This manifold typically reaches temperatures of 600-800Β°F. This heat from the exhaust manifold can melt the vinyl covering of the internal wiring. Once this casing has melted, the internal cables are free to protrude from the cable. As this is a fixed length cable, protruding cables will result in the end of the cable not reaching the correct length, meaning it will not shift into the desired gear i.e. the shift indicator will show you are in park , when you actually reverse. All this is not the fault of the seller, this is a technical defect of Ford. However, the seller must be aware of these conditions in order to offer the best possible service to his customers. Ugly. The ends of this wire are the wrong gauge to fit through the pins on both the gear selector near the steering column and the gear selector. transmission lever. The OEM cable I originally replaced could be snapped in place with one hand. The tolerance for this cable and the other two I've purchased is outside the tolerance for an interference fit. a bit of torque to install these cables, and in hindsight it might have been easier to drill holes about 1/32" in diameter. From the outside, this cable appears to have a continuous solid wave. However, once the vinyl case is opened, it is actually two shafts at the ends and thin cables (not even braided) connecting the two shafts. So if the vinyl case melts as described above, these thin cables will stick out and not contribute if you do that If you extend the cable e to the required length, the machine will not engage the desired gear. This is a poor design despite Ford's technical defect. If it were a quality cable it would have a solid shaft running through it. This cable can still work with a simple modification. and my exhaust manifold. Now it sure takes a few turns to get enough insulation, but in my experience this keeps the cable from melting and keeps the cable the correct length. Thanks for reading my review and I hope it helps enlighten people before they buy. this product.
