Review on Saicoo DOD Military USB Common Access CAC Smart Card Reader - Mac OS & Windows (Vertical Version) by Eric Rodriguez

Works great with Macbook Pro

I had no problem setting up a card reader with my Macbook Pro. I had to download the driver because my laptop doesn't have a CD slot, but the instructions that came with the card reader point to the Saicoo website where you can download the driver for free. Please note that the computer must be restarted in order to install the driver. I had a bit of trouble getting CAC-enabled websites to ask me for certificates, but I followed the instructions on militarycac.com for Mac. You need to check the certificates in Keychain Access after installation and make sure they are all listed as "trusted". You have to manually "trust" the ones that aren't - for me it was DoD ROOT CA 3 and DoD ROOT CA 4. After installing the certs from their website I had to add SIDs for each of my 3 CAC certs ( the one with my name on it) and I was ready to go. (I don't know if I did it right, but for security reasons I added the address of the website I was trying to reach. After adding that, I was able to access all other CAC-enabled websites without any problems.) I have it left activated for several hours during work, and there were no problems with overheating. EDIT: Here in 2020 and this CAC reader still works! I work from home from time to time and have no problem connecting to my webmail and sharepoint with this device on my super old 2009 Macbook Pro. After you set up the certificates, this device is ready to use.
