I started using Charlie's Soap Powder in February 2017 and absolutely love it! Back then I had a standard washing machine and used up to a scoop and a half for very large dirty laundry. Then, at the end of December, I received a Samsung HE front loading washing machine and I started having problems with Charlies. I got white spots on some of our dark colored clothes and our clothes didn't seem clean, I even reduced the amount to about 2/3 of a scoop. Then I started to dissolve the powder and pour it into the dispenser, but I got tired of it quickly. I finally couldn't take it anymore, ordered the liquid and gave the rest of the powder to a friend who still had a standard washing machine. I started with the recommended amount of fluid, not quite an ounce for heavy loads. The white spots were gone but my clothes started itching and my son complained that he was itchy too. So I finally did a little research and found that for an HE front loader that uses so little water, you only need a teaspoon to two teaspoons of concentrated laundry detergent to get your clothes clean. It didn't seem like enough, and it went against everything I'd always thought: more detergent, more cleanliness, right? Not correct! If you use too much detergent, dirt and stains will not be washed off and your clothes will not be clean. So yesterday I used a teaspoon to load the laundry, that's right, a teaspoon, those were the usual somewhat large loads, and I'll tell you, my clothes were so soft, they had less static, even old pizza sauce stains that left on my underwear. Son's white dobok karate came out complete, everything was just clean and fresh. I'm convinced that most people who hate "Charlie" are just abusing it. I'm sure when my husband's gardening season starts again I'll probably use two teaspoons and add an extra conditioner to the wash, but so far I've been very happy with the results and can't even imagine how long my bottle of laundry detergent will last out as I need quite a bit to clean our clothes. I also notice that we have city water, not hard and not soft, but somewhere in the middle. I also use Grab Green Wet Dryer Sheets or Method Dryer Sheets to control static now in this dry winter air. Bottom line: If you're having trouble with Charlie's Soap, you're probably using too much, so experiment with the amount to see what works for you. * Updated 6/5/18. Our teaspoon clothes didn't have enough detergent. So I figured if an ounce, 2 tablespoons of detergent was recommended for a regular load of laundry (a standard washing machine), I decided to halve it for my front load, so I use a tablespoon or three teaspoons for a regular/large load wash . Burden. I have a 1 ounce scoop and use the amount as follows: Light load - one teaspoon Medium load - two teaspoons Normal/large load - three teaspoons (one tablespoon) Very dirty or large load - four teaspoons Pre-treating stains is important and I'm sure I'll be running a heavy cycle washing my husband's dirty work clothes. But it worked great for me and I'm very happy with the results; fresh, clean and soft clothes!***** Charlie's liquid is too dirty for me so I went back to powder and use half as much powder as their liquids and it works great!**** **
