The microphone with speaker allows you to clip the device next to your shoulder on a jacket or on a radio belt. You can hear and transmit incoming traffic by pressing the button and turning your head. Don't worry about your radio falling off while trying to hold onto it and get on with your work. Without a 2M cellular radio, I use my HT in the car and the speaker mic allows me to mount the radio on the passenger seat and keep talking.
