We had our 10 gallon fish tank for several years and it mysteriously turned into "green pea soup" (actually my daughter added to the rock she collected from the creek. In her defense she cooked the rock before she placed it in the tank, but we think that was the source of our algal bloom). We tried draining the tank completely, cooking everything but the fish and starting a whole new tank, but within 2 weeks of that we were back to green pea soup pot. This is the second lamp I bought. The first one was actually too big and wouldn't turn on. When I returned this lantern I found this lantern in a smaller size (same brand and same company). As the first one didn't work I was a little hesitant to order this one but I was desperate so I did. And I'm so glad I did! You see how clean my water is! I'd love to take a photo or video of the tank beforehand, but to be honest I was so sad I didn't want to look at it! Within the first 12 hours of using the light, my water cleared enough that I could see fish and plants again. Within 3 days there was no more green, only the water became a little cloudy. Today, 5 days after we started using the light, CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER AND HAPPY FISH. Make sure you DO NOT place this light directly on the part of the tank where your fish live. It's designed to get into your filter box where the fish don't see the light. Apparently this light will kill your fish if you put it directly in the tank. If you're struggling with algal blooms in green pea soup, this light will fix it.
