It's hard to see a piece of steel but I'll try. That's a ball. That's what it's supposed to be. The only reason for less than 5 stars is 1. The price is a bit high. It's pretty easy to find standard hitch balls for a few bucks less than these. I think he is paid extra for Equalizer brand weight distribution (WDH) hitches due to the specific dimensions. The shank length should be 2 3/8, the shank diameter 1 1/4. Try to find one of these in store. If you need something special, you pay special price. 2 - Installation requires a "thin wall" outlet. Due to the design of the Equalizer WDH, a "normal" head will not fit between the nut and the coupling body wall. I guess it's really more of an issue with the hitch design than the ball design, so maybe it's not fair to hit that ball. Anyway, I found the socket I needed at Lowe's (Craftsman 1 7/8", 3/4") drive. It wasn't written thinly, but it worked flawlessly.
