We have a very wobbly railing that is open on both sides and curves but we really wanted something to keep our daughter from going down the stairs so got it I bought them together with 2 Dreambaby gates. . They work best at the top of our stairs where they meet the thickest part of the solid wood railing. They don't work well on the ground floor where they had to be used on spindles as the spindles will flex when loaded. Basically, the gate will not close or latch properly until it is tightened to its limit. So if you keep tightening the gate against the spindles with these adapters, the spindles will bend and the gate will not close. We've gotten it to the point where the bottom closes, but the top notch doesn't fully engage unless we squeeze it, so we still have to be very diligent. We also used clear zip ties to secure the gate and around the spindles for added security.
