The screen does not stay "flat" -> When projecting, you will notice bubbles/deformations on the screen even when it is stretched to its maximum vertical position. However, this is the only 40-inch desktop model I could find, and it's sturdier than the reviews suggest. The book on the back leg provides extra stability. A non-flat screen isn't perfect, but it's good for presentations. When using for movies I might recommend projecting a bit more so the edges/margins where the vertical line is obvious aren't noticeable. Pull up to retract, then slowly push down. It is not automatically "removed". I used a pocket projector for testing and I think this affected the quality of the projection. I don't know if the new screen would have been flatter. Is it worth saving $4-5? I'm afraid I can't answer that question, but overall I'd say it works and as far as I can tell it looks and works like new.
